The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is pleased to announce that Mrs. Michelle Nevil has been appointed as Director of Educational Services, a role based out of the St. Basil Catholic Education Centre.

Mrs. Nevil began her career in education in 1999 after completing her Bachelor of Education and Science at the University of Lethbridge. She later earned her Master of School Leadership from the University of Lethbridge in 2013. With more than 25 years in education, Mrs. Nevil brings a deep commitment to students, staff, and the mission of Catholic education.

She began her career as a substitute teacher with both Holy Spirit Catholic School Division and Horizon School Division, including work in colony schools near her family ranch in Wrentham. In 2001, she joined St. Patrick School in Taber as a part-time teacher while raising a young family, becoming full-time in 2003. During her years at St. Patrick, Mrs. Nevil taught every grade and developed a strong passion for early learning, particularly Kindergarten.

In 2010, she became the first Associate Principal at St. Patrick School, serving in that role for six years before being named Principal in 2016. She served as Principal for eight years, where she focused on fostering effective relationships and building a culture rooted in Loving to Learn and Learning to Love. In 2024, Mrs. Nevil moved to St. Mary Junior and Senior High School in Taber as Principal, an experience that deepened her appreciation for the unique strengths of every level of education.

“I am blessed to have served in the Taber Catholic Schools for so many years. I will forever cherish the time teaching and leading in both buildings with the amazing staffs, students, and families. I look forward to working with them in this new capacity.”

In her new role, Mrs. Nevil will support teachers, principals, and staff across Holy Spirit Catholic School Division through instructional leadership, assessment practices, and faith permeation. She is passionate about curriculum, meaningful assessment, effective relationships, and providing students with the best possible educational experiences so they can celebrate success and become lifelong learners.

Her faith continues to guide her work. Mrs. Nevil draws inspiration from Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” She reflects that every person carries a unique light from God, and that educators are called to recognize this light in every student while using their own light to guide, encourage, and give hope.

Reflecting on her new role, Mrs. Nevil shared that she is grateful to continue working alongside dedicated colleagues and looks forward to learning the unique contexts of Holy Spirit Catholic Schools while supporting teachers at every level in their instructional practice and faith journey.

Aaron Skretting, Associate Superintendent of Learning, shared,

“Michelle has a solid track record of instructional leadership and relationship building from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Her dedication to the Catholic identity of our schools will be key as we support principals and teachers, and foster a shared sense of purpose in providing the best learning experiences for students.”

Chantel Axani, Superintendent of Holy Spirit Catholic School Division, shared,

"I am delighted to congratulate Michelle on this appointment, as she brings over 25 years of dedicated service and extensive experience in K-12 instructional leadership to this vital role. Her passion for fostering meaningful relationships and her deep commitment to our Catholic faith will be instrumental in enhancing the educational success for every student across our division."

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division looks forward to the leadership, experience, and faith-filled dedication Mrs. Nevil brings to this role.
